Belmont Park in Mission Beach is a historic oceanfront amusement park located in the Mission Bay area of San Diego. This historic park still has attractions and rides that remain from the original 1925 park, including the Giant Dipper as well as The Plunge, which is currently closed but has plans to be rebuilt by 2018. What makes this one of the best parks in San Diego is the fact that it is located on the beach and it offers much more than just rides and attractions, which helps with bringing in millions of people each year.
Play and Flow at Belmont Park
Belmont Park allows visitors to come for free and pay as you play. They offer individual ride tickets as well as Belmont Park unlimited ride wristbands. The Belmont Park rides consist of the Giant Dipper historical roller coaster, as well as the Beach Blaster, Control Freak, and Octotron. Additionally, there are bumper cars, a carousel, and a couple of rides for little kids. There are also many attractions inside Belmont Park such as an arcade, laser tag, mini golf, rock wall, zip line, and midway games. These attractions are all individually priced, but help add to the excitement you can endure while at the park.
There are also two unique attractions at Belmont Park that you can’t find many other places. These two attractions are the FlowBarrel and the FlowRider, which are located at the Wavehouse. The FlowRider is one of the most unique wave riding attractions in the world, it features a patented sheet wave technology, which creates an endless wave for riders of all ages to both flowboard and bodyboard. After you get used to the FlowRider, try your skills on the FlowBarrel, which is actually the only one in the United States. This 10-foot wave machine pumps 100,000 gallons of water per minute, creating an endless barreling wave for visitors to try and ride.
Indulge in Tasty Treats
Belmont Park isn’t just known for its rides and attractions, the park is loaded with great food and refreshing drinks. You can enjoy a few brews and views on the boardwalk at Draft San Diego. Draft has 69 beers on tap as well as more than 30 bottles to choose from while enjoying some casual handcrafted fare. The Wavehouse, where the FlowBarrel and FlowRider are located, is also home to some great food and beverages. At the Wavehouse, you can eat and drink while soaking up the sun by one of their tiki bars or in a cabana. If you’re looking for sushi and an amazing view, then you have to check out Cannonball. It is home to the largest oceanfront rooftop in San Diego and is designed to look as if you are in a pool, just without the water. Belmonty’s is considered an attraction for its historical popularity as well as some amazing burgers and pizzas. Hot Dog on a Stick is the place for, obviously, hot dogs. You can also enjoy some fresh squeezed lemonade, French fries, and cheese on a stick.
Now, if you have more of a sweet tooth or want more of smaller bites and coffee then the following places in Belmont Park are for you. Dottie’s Pop Shop offers fantastic coffee, delicious pastries, and some amazing grab-n-go boardwalk bites. The Sweet Shoppe and Beach Treats are sweet tooth paradises. You can indulge in homemade fudge, candy apples, monster ice cream cones, cotton candy, frozen bananas, and shaved ice. Last but not least is Dole Whip, where they offer this coveted treat, which is a pineapple flavored soft-serve frozen dessert. Belmont Park is the only place you can enjoy this little taste of paradise, other than at a few Disney locations and at Dole’s processing plant in Hawaii. So even if you came just for the rides and attractions, you will most likely find yourself at one of these places for great eats and refreshing drinks.
