San Diego whale watching is one of the most fun outdoor activities you can enjoy during a vacation to our area. From mid-December through April, tens of thousands of Gray whales will make the 10,000-mile journey from Alaska to Baja California. Then, later in the year, Blue whales also migrate through the area. You can experience this amazing natural phenomenon up close with a San Diego whale watching cruise, or from the shore with a great pair of binoculars.

With 70-miles of coastline along the direct migration path of Gray whales, there are plenty of opportunities for Gray whale watching in San Diego. The best time of year for Gray whale watching is mid-December to April. During this time, more than 20,000 whales will move through the area.
